Half Moon Cookies

I made these last week. In Upstate NY we love our Half Moons and debate who has the best ones. We never call them black & whites! That's their downstate name. One of the local grocery chains sells them for a buck a pop so I make my own. I prefer the buttery cookie with frosting as opposed to a sourdough cookie with icing.

1 C. Sugar
1/2 C. shortening
1/2 C. Buttermilk
1 1/2 teasp. vanilla
1 egg
1 teasp. Baking Powder
1/2 teasp. Baking soda
2 C. all purpose Flour

Preheat oven to 350°
grease cookie sheet
Drop dough by 1/4 C. about 3" apart. Flatten slightly.

Bake 15-19 minutes until edges begin to brown and tops spring back when touched.
Remove to wire rack.

Frost cookies half white & half chocolate.

Logging. Click to enlarge.

Will it all be gone by next week? I think not!

  2. Ooooh those cookies look good! I've saved the recipe:-) Is that logging taking place right at the back of your place? I'll never forget when I went to Vancouver, BC in the late 1980's...they had started logging on some of the mountains and great big areas were stripped of trees, quite a sad sight. You, dear girl, have a LOT of snow left, I guess I better stop complaining of the little snowfall we had yesterday! lol Hope it melts for you realll soon!
