Ice Cold Workshop

Today was a Superintendent's day. I got to spend four (4!!!!) hours on a bench seat in an icy garage. The buses were moved out of the first few bays and the cast off cafeteria tables were set up and waiting for us. The overhead doors had 2-8" gaps at the bottom. The temperature outside was about 1F with a sub-zero windchill. The overhead heater at the back of the cleared area ran and ran and ran. I could hear it even if I could not feel it.

By the time the workshop was over my feet were so cold that they hurt, despite my wool socks and boots. I wore my coat for most of the meeting.

I have a couple of theories as to why we did not meet in one of the school buildings. It is probably best that I keep them to myself as I am exceptionally angry. I love my routes and I would certainly miss my kids but I have to at least consider working for a district that treats it's employees better and provides health insurance, which I won't get for 2 more years where I am now. We'll see how things go over the next couple of months.

The workshop would have been interesting if I hadn't been so focused on the fact I was freezing. The topics were bullying, gangs, and recognizing predators.

  1. That is terrible, Apple! You deserve better than that. You are smart, though, not to speak when you are angry. I am still trying to learn that lesson!

  2. Oh wow, I can't believe they held a meeting in those frigid conditions! Hopefully you don't get sick from having been so cold:-( It's no wonder you're so angry but sometimes it's best not to say a word and just try to figure out what to do instead.

  3. Superintendent's day? Is that like an in service day? It sounds like I'd rather be teaching the kids!

  4. I think our Super days are the same as in service days. The teachers have to go to workshops too. They get the heated buildings :-)
