“Based upon the investigation, it appears that a bus driver fell from a moving school bus and sustained a head injury,” police said this morning.
Just prior to 2 p.m., four bus drivers were conversing aboard a Golden Sun Bus at the junior high. The driver of that school bus, Donald Mason, drove around the circular drive as Brenda Phillips, 51, of 5350 state Route 104, Oswego, apparently fell while standing in the stairwell next to the bus doors.
Phillips fell through the doors onto the pavement. Medical assistance was rendered to her at the scene as EMS crews were summoned, police said.
Phillips was transported to Lee Memorial Hospital in Fulton and subsequently to University/Upstate Hospital in Syracuse where she died at about 5:20 p.m., Wednesday evening. Fulton Police collision technicians investigated the accident scene yesterday and that investigation is continuing.
I worked with Brenda several years ago. Although I didn't know her well I am deeply saddened by her death. My heart felt sympathy goes out to her family.
