Snowy Friday

I'm the guest author today at Shades of the Departed! I was very flattered to be asked. The focus there is on photography and is also home of the monthly photography carnival, Smile for the Camera. Be sure to check it out.

I had an appointment to get my stitches out this morning so snow did not fit in well with my plans! John had go to out and shovel so I could get to the car. He had cleaned the steps up well but they were still a little slick. The ramp at the doctors office hadn't been cleared at all. There was only about an inch of snow there. Of course I slipped but manged to grab the railing rather than fall.

The appointment went well. The stitches are out and I now have no bandage, just a compression stocking. Of course If I'd known that I would have taken a sock to the appointment. A walking boot is a poor substitute for a winter boot being open at the toe and all. I can now start walking on the heel and I'm getting around much better. John no longer will have to wait on me whenever I want something. He wasn't taking any chances on my hurting myself so when we left the office he took me to the car in a wheelchair. Both embarrassing and a relief. I did say something to my doctor and the office staff was trying to hunt up a shovel as we were leaving.

The district I work for closed early today but I'm not really sure why. They are predicting that the storm will intensify and we may have thunder snow near the lake but when we went through town this morning they hadn't gotten all that much yet. John has to get the boys off the bus this afternoon so I'm keeping an eye on the closing list for their district, so far it it doesn't look like they're going to close early and Angie said the sun was out there at noon.

Not much has been happening here. I've been transcribing letters and driving John nuts. I'm looking forward to being able to do more over the next couple of weeks. I suspect that my bulbs aren't going to get planted after all.

  1. I enjoyed your Shades column very much today, Apple. And as always, I enjoy reading the letters. I look for them every day on Google Reader...kind of like a genealogist's soap opera, I guess, LOL!

I've been wondering how the foot is doing. Glad to hear your stitches are out. I think I'll get mine out on Tuesday, when I have my follow-up appointment. I finally have enough range of motion that I can change my own dressings and today I put on jeans for the first time since surgery! (Try putting some on with only one arm and not hunching your shoulders forward to lean over and grab the other side with one hand as you get dressed, and you'll see why it's taken me so long!). No snow yet here, thankfully, or otherwise I'm not sure I'd let my daughter drive to do my errands (this will be her first winter driving).

    Take care,
    Miriam

  2. Hi Miriam,

The foot had been fine. I guess I did too much yesterday because I had pain all night and have resorted to the pain meds that I didn't need after surgery - So don't you over do too! I want you back to your super speedy typing soon.

Forgive me for laughing at your struggles to get dressed. I've been able to get dressed on my own but for some reason I still need help getting my britches off. lol

I hope you don't get snow for awhile yet. We've gotten enough for everybody.

Thanks for your kind words about Shades. I enjoyed writing it. You're right, the letters are like a mini soap opera.

    Heal quick,
    Apple

Hi, Apple. I'm tagging you for "Thanksgiving Meme and a game of tag" over at Julie's blog, but I'll understand if it's a little to much, right now.

    Glad your healing OK.

  4. Glad to hear your stitches are out and you're managing to get around better. It's sad about the bulbs not getting planted. Maybe you could plant them in pots and keep them in a cool place, like the garage. But be aware that mice love to eat tulips! We learned the hard way with bulbs we were forcing last year :( They don't like Hyacinths and daffs, thank heavens. You could force them, or just keep them to enjoy outside in the spring.
I enjoyed your geneology article. Phew, what a lot of work! I can imagine your excitement over all those letters though :)
Both Ross and I wish you, John and your family a very happy Thanksgiving. Don't overdo!!!

  7. Apple, guess you're using your enforced immobility well - all those letters. I also enjoyed your guest post.

You'd have to look up the details somewhere, but could you pot up those bulbs, chill them and then force them for inside bloom?
