Historic Flooding

It stopped raining here this morning. We’ve been very lucky, we’ve had a little bit of heavy rain but mostly steady light rain. I haven’t been by any of the locks to see how many flood gates have been opened but the smaller steams in this area are not flooding.

South and east they haven’t been nearly as lucky. The Thruway has been closed from Syracuse to Albany and won’t open again until sometime tomorrow. I can’t remember that long a stretch ever being closed for anything other than snow. The counties southeast have closed, again something that only happens here in the winter when the road crews can’t keep up. Roads have washed out in several areas and rivers are expected to hit record crest levels.

My heart goes out to all those affected. Hopefully cellars will get pumped out quickly and the damage won’t be too expensive. Road repairs will take awhile.
